Promptly Penned: No Abduction Policy

promptly penned

Today’s prompt immediately made me think of Supernatural. Of course, I’ve been binge watching SPN for about 2 months now, so it kinda makes sense that I’ve got Sam and Dean stuck in my head. Unfortunately, I don’t write fanfic anymore. But when I started thinking about it, it sort of fit where I want to go in the next Hunters book, so that’s what I ended up going with. Here’s the prompt:

Person A: “I thought I’d made it clear we have a no abduction policy.”

Person B: “She wasn’t cooperating. What did you expect me to do?”

The door slammed open, making Lilly wince. She should be used to loud noises by now, given that she’d been hunting for over a year now, but after more than a century of living in quiet…well, she still hadn’t adjusted.

The big, lumbering oaf of a werewolf didn’t help matters much, if she were honest.

Lilly flattened herself against the wall so he could make it through the hallway without knocking her down–again–and frowned when she noticed that his arms were full of squirming pissed off girl. At least, she thought it was a girl, judging on the length and tone of the legs poking out of the bottom of the…was that an actual burlap sack?

“Nicholas,” she shouted when he stalked his way toward the interrogation room.

He didn’t even pretend like he’d heard her. Bastard.

Rising to her full height, a menacing five foot two, she marched to the back of the building and made sure her Scary Witch Voice was on. “Nicholas St James! Explain yourself this instant!”

He tossed the wriggling hostage onto a chair and went about securing her legs before taking the risk on cuffing her wrists to the horridly uncomfortable metal seat. Whatever this girl proved to be, Lilly would bet a month’s pay she was powerful.

Lilly chanted a quick calming spell, aimed at the hostage who still tried kicking and punching at her captor. The girl went limp, freeing an extra hand for Nicholas to finish securing her.

“Thanks,” he said, his gravelly voice sounding tired.

“You shouldn’t have gone after something so powerful on your own,” she replied, noting the chains he’d wrapped around the girl were the same ones she’d spelled for him just before he’d gone out. “I could’ve helped.”

He yanked the sack from the girl’s head, revealing what looked to be no more than a child. At Lilly’s soft gasp, he rolled his eyes, “Don’t let her appearance fool you, sugar. This bitch is older than any of us combined.”

“Now, there’s no need for such language Nicholas.”

“Nick. How many times do I have to tell you it’s Nick?” she could almost hear him grinding his teeth together.

“Until Nicholas stops being your real name,” she shrugged. “And I thought I’d made it clear we have a no abduction policy here. Did you forget how to follow orders, Nicholas?”

“She wasn’t cooperating, Lillian, what did you expect me to do? Invite her over for sweet tea and cookies? Sorry, she turned that invitation down. And this werewolf has answers we need.”

Her eyes widened. He’d kidnapped one of his own kind? Then again, he’d abandoned the weres when he decided to join their little hunting party.

“Don’t get so emotional over it,” Nick said as he dragged the chair with the girl strapped to it toward the middle of the room. “She’s not one of my pack–my former pack–and she’s bad news.”

He turned to look at her, and she noticed that the tiny werewolf had managed to get a few licks in of her own, judging from the bruising on his jaw, the swelling of his lip, and the blood dripping down his forehead.

Lilly crossed the room and brought a hand to his cheek, refusing to acknowledge how the scruff tickled her skin as she whispered a healing spell. “If you’re going to interrogate her, it’s best if she doesn’t see you bleeding. Gives away some of your leverage.” She turned to leave, pausing when he called after her.

“Thanks. And next time…I might need you to come along. You know, so I’m not breaking policy and all that.”

She nodded once to let him know she’d heard, then closed the door behind her.

Nice. Can’t wait to see where you take this. Poor Nicholas. I imagine he’s in for some tough times ahead, lol.

I have a feeling Lilly is going to give him a run for his money, that’s for sure!

I wasn’t sure if I was going to, but I can’t get them out of my head. Guess I need to write so they’ll shut up. LOL
